Ps.119..HE/Hey..."Breathe..Watch..Revelation"

The Window

~Fifth Section~

HE/Hey

In Hebrew Means:
"Look"..."Reveal"
"Breathe"

Introduction:

While the modern symbol of "HE/Hey" is represented in the shape of a "window," motivating one to look outward

... beyond one's self

... to consider the existence of God and His will for our life

... the original symbol depicted in the brown patch above ... takes us one spiritual step further by representing "Looking up" with arms raised to the heavens

... as an expression of ..."WOW !!"... joyful submission and worship of our Creator, God

... which together ... are used to ground this study ... written through the pen of King David

... into four significant priorities and the real purpose of "Looking Up" to see all our Father has revealed

... as a means of drawing us unto Himself so we might experience the Breath of Eternal life in Him ... through His Living Word and Spirit.

Look Up
. . .and Prepare

v.33
"Teach me, O LORD,
the way
of thy statutes;
and
I shall keep it
unto the end."

"teach"
[H3384]
= throw .. cast
= water .. rain
= "Water of Word"
= direct .. instruct
= inform

"way"
[H1870]
= road .. journey
= manner .. habit
= course of life
= moral character

[H1869]
= tread .. bent .. habit
= have gone forth
= traveled

"statutes"
[H2706]
= laws .. rules .. limits
= specifically prescribed
   .. for one's self

[H2710]
= portion .. appointed
= engrave .. written
= inscribe .. Word of God
= to be specifically
   .. written for
= personalized Word

"keep"
[H5341]
= watch .. guard
= preserve
= guard from dangers
= keep close .. observe
= subtle watcher

"end"
[H6118]
= consequence
= gain or loss
= because .. since
= on account of
= condition

The first Word, of this verse, "teach," prepares us for the last Word ..."the end"

... emphasizing King David's submissive request to be taught by the Lord, Himself

... setting a most valuable example for us to consider our own need of seeking

...only God's teaching first to provide a perfect standard by which to measure any other teaching we may encounter from the world ... or even from a pulpit.

David's ultimate purpose being ... preparation ... to endure to "the end"

... enabled by the power of the Truth of the Word of God

... not only speaking of "the end" of King David's life ... but serving as a picture of "end times" as well.

Look Up
. . .and See

v.34
"Give me
understanding
and
I shall keep
thy law
yea,
I shall observe it
with my
whole heart."

"understanding"
[H995]
= discern .. consider
= think
= observe .. mark .. heed
= be instructed
= regard with prudence

"keep"
[H5341]
= watch .. guard
= preserve
= guard from dangers
= keep close .. observe
= subtle watcher

"law"
[H8451]
= direction .. instruction
= prophetic teaching
= interpret Word of God

[H3384]
= like:
   .."Water of the Word"
= pour .. cast .. throw
= like rain
= teach .. instruct

"observe"
[H8104]
= keep guard .. give heed
= protect
= treasure up
   .. (in memory)
= celebrate

"heart"
[H3820]
= inner man .. mind
= thoughts
= determination .. will
= appetite .. desire
= emotion
= seat of courage
   .. and wisdom

The ability to truly "see" and "understand" is actually more a matter of the heart ... than of the eyes ... mind ... or ... intellect.

This is especially significant when considering matters of eternal life and death.

The heart must have a compelling desire to be engaged in absorbing the "Water of the Word"

... and sincerely convinced of its most preeminent value ... convinced enough to dig for it ... preserve ... and observe it.

If the Truth of eternal life is not successfully transferred from the pages of the Bible ... to the mind ... and then from the mind to the heart ... no conversion to Christ will occur.

Becoming a "born-again-of-the-Spirit-of-God" child of God ... must involve one's whole heart.

Look Up
. . .and Joyfully Follow

v.35
"Make me to go
in the path of thy commandments
for therein
do I delight."

"make" (to go)
[H1869]
= pressure to .. press upon
= tread .. bend
= lead .. march
= cause to go

"path"
[H5410]
= way .. route in life
= journey

[H734]
= road .. way of living

"commandment"
[H4687]
= law .. precept
= ordinances
= judgments .. rules
= code of wisdom
= best course in life
= God's direction and will
= totality of Word of God

[H6680]
= assignment
   .. personally applied
= specifically God
   .. appointed

"delight"
[H2654]
= find pleasure
= well pleased

[H8173]
= shout for joy
= joyful emotion

Most people choose the broad road instead of the narrow road

... because the broad road is an easy de-cline ... where as the narrow road is a more difficult in-cline

... sometimes so steep ... it first appears to be impossible to travel ... so we can become discouraged before we even begin.

For this reason ... King David shows wisdom ... again ... in being pro-active in His request for God's motivation and help

... asking in advance ... as he first begins to consider his path in life.

David wants God to "make" him

... pressure him

... cause him

... to travel the most righteous path ... as prescribed in God's Holy Word

... because he realizes that this is the path ... spelled out in God's commandments

... a path that is going to align him with God's will for his life and ultimately bring him the most joy.

Look Up
. . .and Desire

v.36
Incline my heart
unto
thy testimonies
and
not to covetousness.

"incline"
[H5186]
= stretch out .. expand
= extend .. enlarge
= as pitch (a tent)
= influence

"heart"
[H3820]
= inner man .. mind
= thoughts
= determination
= appetite .. desire .. will
= emotion
= seat of courage
   .. and wisdom

"testimonies"
[H5715]
= legal witness

[H5707]
= evidence recorded
= Word of God

[H5749]
= repeat .. affirm
= exhort

"covetousness"
[H1215]
= unjust gain
= profit

[H1214]
= greedy .. plunder
= acquire by violence
   .. by wounding

David prays again that God would expand his heart to receive the Word of God

... the "testimonies" /commandments of God.

When something is stated more than once ... especially in close proximity

... in God's Word

... it is for the purpose of emphasizing the importance of what is being said.

... So we should conclude that God is telling us to pay close attention to what He is saying here

... because this "expanding of the heart" is very important to our success in this life ... as well as our eternal life.

In this prayer, David is also revealing the related root of "covetousness."

Man actually profits by an expanded heart that has made room for the Word of God

... as opposed to a tight ... stingy ..."covetous" heart

... attempting to profit in life by self-centered ... greedy ... unjust gain ... even ... at times ... going so far as to violently plunder or wound another in some way to get what one desires.

Man's ultimate objectiveis to be his own "god" ... and brag about how he has blessed himself ... instead of submitting to the real God and allowing Him to bless.

Many ... considering themselves to be religious ... attempting to be "generous" with their "good works"... actually do not realize that their own self-determined works are all in vain.

The only works that really qualify ... are the specific ones that God and His Word have actually initiated in one's heart

... through a personal relationship with His Spirit residing in His Holy Word ... as well as residing in our heart.

BUT ... often ... the works God calls us to do ... are works we would rather not do

... often works that would take us to places we would rather not go

...to people with whom we would rather not be associated in ministry ... needy people ... unpopular people ... people the world rejects ... or ungrateful ... selfish ... even hateful people.

... Nevertheless ... God knows what is best for us and those to whom we are sent to help.

He is the One who teaches and guides ... according to His will ... according to the specific works He has specifically ... individually ... assigned to us.
"...Not as Cain,
who was of
that wicked one,
and
slew his brother.
And
wherefore
slew he him?
Because
his own works
were evil
and
his brother's
righteous."
-1 John 3:12

What is the difference between Cain and Abel's works?

God set the standard ... He gave the specifics according to His Word regarding exactly how the offering was to be conducted ... however ... while Abel's works were submitted to the specific Word of God ... Cain's works were self-determined.

Cain's work was labeled as "evil" not because the fruit of the ground he offered was evil

... but because he ignored the specifics of God's Word and determined his own "good works"

... making himself "god" by putting his own determination before God's.
"Be watchful

[Look Up to
God's Standard]
[specific Word]

and strengthen
the things
which remain,
that are
ready to die:
for I have
not found
thy works perfect
before God.

[according to God's written Standard]

Remember therefore
how
thou hast received
and
heard,

[received and heard]
[God's specific Word]

and
hold fast,
and
repent.
If therefore
thou shalt
not watch
I will come on thee
as a thief,
and
thou shalt not know
what hour
I will come upon thee."
-Rev.3:2-3

HE/Hey ... While looking up to watch for the soon appearing of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ

... let us also look up and consider the ancient Hebrew symbol of arms raised heavenward

... expressing man's desire to connect with His Creator and harmonize with God's perfect will for his earthly ... as well as ... his eternal life.

Next ... let us think upon the modern symbol of the window

... reminding man to change his perspective from self

... and self-authority

... (and other self-appointed "authorities")

... to ...

looking outward ... and upward to Almighty God ... alone ... the Creator of the heavens and the earth

... desiring to align our will ... exclusively ... preeminently ... with God's Holy Word.

When we look out (the window) ... and up to the heavens

... this is when God reveals Himself to us spiritually now at this time

... and physically ... one day very soon ... as we are eagerly:

Looking for
that blessed hope,
and
the glorious
appearing
of the great God
and
our Saviour
Jesus Christ;

Who gave himself
for us,
that he might
redeem us
from all iniquity,
and
purify unto himself
a peculiar people,
zealous of
good works.

These things speak
and exhort
and rebuke
with all authority.
Let no man
despise thee.
--Titus 2:12-15

* * * * *
God will Reveal
. . .the Way
  . . .the Truth
    . . .the Life

v.37

mine eyes
from
beholding vanity
and
quicken thou me
in thy way.

= pass over .. take away
= don't let

"beholding"
[H7200]

= falsehood .. lies
= nothingness .. no value
= worthless

[H7722]
= ruin .. destroy
= desolate

"quicken"
[H2421]
= have life
= sustain .. grow
= live forever
= save

[H2331]
= to breathe

[H2324]
= show how .. interpret
= tell .. declare .. explain

"way"
[H734]
= way of living
= path of life
= narrow road

[H1869]
= tread .. bent .. habit
= have gone forth
= traveled

[H1870]
= road .. journey
= manner .. habit
= course of life
= moral character

When we look up ... to prepare ... to see ... to joyfully follow

... because we desire God's Holy Word with our whole heart

... then He will reveal ... the Way ... the Truth ... and the Life.

When we look up ... to change our focus from ourselves and the things of this world

... to focus on our heavenly home

... we will discover a more realistic view of life ... from a heavenly perspective.

Therefore David prays that God will not let him become distracted by the worthless ... false things ... of this world ... the things that keep him from the Way that leads to abundant and eternal life.

With his whole heart, David desires to discover ... and completely focus on

... the Way ... the Truth ... and ... the Life.

God will Reveal
   ...the Authority
       ...of His Word

v.38
Stablish thy word
unto thy servant
who is devoted
to thy fear.

= arise
= become powerful
= maintain .. establish
= stand .. endure
= validate .. prove
= persist .. abide
= build .. constitute

"word"
[H565]
= utterance .. speech
= commandment

[H561]
= promise .. saying

[H5650]
= slave
= worshipper of God

[H5647]
= laborer .. worker

[H5646]
= builder

"devoted"
[H3373]
= dedicated
= consecrated
= awe .. reverence

"fear"
[H3374]
= respect
[H3372]
= honor

God ... alone ... is the "Higher Power" ... the one to whom every man must submit (Rom. 13)

... with fear and trembling.

He and His Word are preeminent ... because He alone holds the power over ... life ... and death ... and Hell.

If we present our request out of respect ... honor ... and reverence for Him

... He will validate His Word ... build it into our life ... and prove its strength within us.

"Authority" speaks also of "priority"... and there is a principle in life ... a key to success ... discovered

... when the correct Authority is established ... and submitted to ... as the priority on our list of priorities in life.

... When this happens ... everything else in life falls into place according to God's Word and will.

God will Reveal
. . .Truth of His Word

v.39
Turn away
my reproach
which I fear
for thy judgments
are good.

"turn away"
[H5674]
= pass over .. take away
= don't let

"reproach"
[H2781]
= scorn .. shame .. rebuke
= disapproval

"fear"
[H3025]
= dread

[H3374]
= terror .. afraid
    .. because of respect
        .. reverence

[H3372]
= honor

"judgments"
[H4941]
= right .. lawful
= in accord with the
    .. Word of God
= order .. approprate

[H8199]
= vindicate .. punish
= govern
= defend .. deliver

"good"
[H2890]
= pleasant .. agreeable
= beneficial .. ethical
= glad .. happy

From this verse ... we begin to understand ... in a much deeper way ... the reason God called David "a man after mine own heart."

There is something very unique about David's heart ... he has a tremendous fear of disappointing God ... of experiencing God's disapproval.

David is a man ... willing to admit that God's Way is the perfect Way ... and that His own inclinations ... usually bring disappointing results.

So David prays that God will help him do the right thing in spite of His own weaknesses.

Earnestly Follow
...God's
    ...Righteous Word

To Receive
...the Breath
   ...of Life

in thy righteousness.

= morally right
= state of having
   .. been vindicated

King David has discovered how to sustain life ... grow as a person ... and live forever

... He reminds God that this is something he has been craving ... longing after ... desiring with all of His heart.

Because David has sincerely desired to follow God's Word and Law ... he reminds the Lord that it is only right

... and in harmony with God's nature ... to grant David the breath/Spirit and life ... that God ... alone ... can grant.

"HE"
... is who He
... says He is

... so
... "Hey"

... Let's raise our hands toward Heaven

... with a grateful heart

... and ...

... praise Him for it !!!
