Surely the "eye" is like a window ... created to see ... and be seen ... like a two-way street ... that reveals all that goes on around us ... while expressing ... the inner-most thoughts of our own mind and heart.
But what is seen when we "watch"?
How do we ... rightly interpret ... "know"
... when it is time to seek "shade"?

The first step to experiencing God's "shade" ... "defense" ... is realizing that there is something that needs to be "done" first.
Because there is "protection" in obedience ... if we want "defense" ... we must ... first of all

"Judgments" and "justice" are often used interchangeably in the "Word of God" ... like two sides of the same coin.
David is telling us that before we seek spiritual and physical "shade" ... "defense" ... we must be sure that ... to the best of our knowledge ... we have done what is right ... (i.e.) ... "judgments" and "justice"
... by examining our heart with spiritual "eyes" ... provided through the study and meditation of "God's Word"
... considering how what He has said in His "Word" ... relates to what is actually going on in our heart.
We are then ready to petition our Father ... with confidence ... "knowing" that we "have done" ... ("fulfilled") ... the requirements of "judgment" and "justice"
... can expect Him to come to our "defense"
... and not:

... damage their credibility and good reputation ... by creating a trail of undesireable reports
... lying ... setting them up ... in an attempt to justify their "oppressive" actions ... trying to incriminate them in some way
Therefore we can find great "defense" and vindication by ... doing as much as possible ... in the time we have
... to build a reputable foundation ... taking care to do what is "right" before "oppression" is ever launched against us
... committing ourselves to walking with God ... by being in harmony with His "judgments" and "justice"
... which also secures the confidence
... to pray:

This request David is making ... is greater than just a simple cry for help.
He is praying God will be:

Our Father is not orchestrating from a distance ... but will draw close to us and "weave" Himself right into the fabric of our circumstances ... when we qualify

Even though His kingdom is not of this physical world ... it requires physical "workers" ... to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of others ... functioning as "builders"

The works ... of which the Apostle Paul speaks ... are physical works ... specifically mentioned throughout the entire Bible
... not required as a means of salvation
... but ... present ... and ... required
... as evidence of salvation
... keeping in mind ... (for example) ... that in Mark 7 ... adult children that refuse to "recompence" ... "repay" ... elderly parents ... or parents in any type of need ... by caring for them
... of such children ... Jesus said:
... "Let them die the death."
Are we really following the example of the Good Samaritan ... personally ... physically ... caring for those our Father places in the path we trod ... as we go about to fullfill the "ministry" we assume He has given to us
... a "ministry" that never requires any ... one-on-one ... personal hands-on help
... assuming that if the person was "right with God" ... he would not be needing anything from man
... assuming this is how God expects us to recoup taxes
... letting the needy ... especially of the household of God ... fellow Christians ... and one's own "flesh and blood" family ... praise other means in this world for meeting their needs.
*Let's consider the example of the Good Samaritan once more:
... He was not a professional minister specifically seeking out people to help
... He was likely a very busy business man that:
... God interrupted
... to spontaneously serve
in a very unexpected circumstance.
Unlike the others ... that also came upon this helpless individual
... the Samaritan did not spend a lot of time evaluating the needy man's condition ... to determine if he was worth helping
... but immediatedly ... on the spot ... ministered to him with what he had.
After doing what he could in the way of "first aid" ... the Samaritan did not say to himself
... "Well ... I did all I can afford to do for the poor wretch ... now have to get back to what I was previously called to do" ... no
... the Samaritan ... not even a worshipper of the real God ... felt it was his duty ... as a fellow human being ... to place the injured man in the private care of someone he could trust even with his own life
... and committed himself to paying whatever it took to get the victim back on his feet.
Hard hearts ... lacking compassion ... natural affection ... and love
... are unregenerate hearts.

Indeed ... the "eye" is the window of the soul ... looking for "shade" ... looking for "defence" ... looking for "protection"
... BUT ...
Does the soul ... the heart ... qualify as a "servant"?
... BUT ...
Is the soul ... living in harmony with God ... doing "judgment" and "justice"?
If the answer is ... "YES" ... then let us confidently petition our Father to restrain the wicked and the:

He doesn't want to think about them ... deal with them ... or "see" them.
"Oppressors" are backward people ... claiming that they are "going forward" while actually going backward
... not builders ... but self-destructing ... while attempting to bring down and destroy others
... slaves to other worldlings ... and under the control of spiritually evil forces.
They also are required to study ... maybe even more dedicated to study ... than the average professing Christian.
We don't like to think about the things that motivate the wicked ... the reality of it is disturbing
... we would rather live in a world where we can perpetually enjoy happy thoughts and compatible relationships
... because "oppressors" function in a world of their own making ... that can be a lot like a horror movie.
... but for the professing Christian ... there is a very unpleasant end awaiting this type of selective vision.
Maybe this is the reason it is so difficult for some ... to study the stark revelations of human behavior ... God describes in His Holy Word.
Nevertheless the "oppressors" are diligently studying.
... And what do they study?
... how to be backward ... how to use their life and environment to covertly destroy even the smallest detail that would increase genuine love ... efficiency ... Godly progress
... or any type of spiritual and physical building efforts of others.
Considering ... [H5869] ... in the list above ... this includes working to destroy "mental and physical faculties" ... as well as the good health and longevity of others ... to covertly slow-kill ... shorten lives ... of God's people
... relentlessly engaging in disrupting those who are committed to:
... "watching" ... "good works" ... "judgment" ... "justice" ... Godly focus ... confidence ... and any personal time in ... or association with ... the "Word of God."
For this reason ... David is ... admitting that his physical and spiritual eyes:

Many professing Christians today ... that have chosen to become Scriptually ignorant ... by refusing to make the "Word of God" personally preeminent in their lives

... and as a result of their ignorance ... have opted to follow religious "wolves"

These are the "wolves in sheep's clothing"... the "Word of God" warns about
... the ones who (from the pulpit ... as well as in private consultations with biblically ignorant attendees) subtly give permission to murder by neglect ... with a little twisting here and there ... of the "Word of God"
... encouraging them to follow the "traditions of the world" ... Jesus warned about in Mark Ch. 7
... making love and care of others a mere choice ... a sadistic "gift of choice" ... instead of the mandatory responsibility and required expression of genuine Christian love and care God commands
... which has ... through false interpretations of Scripture ... become a type of "gray area" promoted by the world ... a decision they now feel they can base on convenience and monetary evaluations ... but which actually has the power to hasten the death of those God requires them to love ... respect ... and value enough ... to do whatever it takes to nurture.
How the "Father of Lies" ... and enemy of our souls must feel gratified to have accomplished this task of tampering with "God's Word" to the extent of using it to destroy the very ones Jesus died to save
... how he has encouraged them to destroy the lives of the specific ones Jesus has commanded them to benefit ... and care for ... by nurturing their lives.
The reality is ... we have not ever been given the benefit of choice when it comes to withholding love and care
There isn't any excuse for murder ... whether slow-kill ... or instantaneous.
Neither is there any excuse for ignorance regarding the Holy Spirit's interpretation of the Word of God ... as He compares it to the traditions mentioned in Mark 7.
Throughout the Holy Bible we are commanded to follow God's Word ... so we will:

Think these words are too strong?

By the power of the Holy Spirit ... we must be honest with ourselves to qualify as a real "servant" of God ... having "understanding" imparted by our Creator ... as we yield to the power of God's Spirit ... so we might "know" what God actually means ... by what His "testimonies" say in His "Holy Word"
... and then do what He says

Worldwide Christian persecution (yes ... even in America) ... and dishonoring parents ... are listed among the last signs we see mentioned in the "Word of God" ... as indications that the rapture of the Church is near ... "even at the door"
... because it is "AIN" ... "revealing" ... helping us "see" into the hearts of our generation ... this last generation.
And what do we "see"?
We "see" a world that has lost its humanity ... through a type of selfishness never witnessed before by our generation ... causing loss of natural affection ... through hard hearts that are now able to neglect their own flesh and blood
... not caring whether their own family members live or die ... a generation even promoting self-destruction ... suicide ... of the elderly
... giving us the final sign
... of the final:

... so instead of going forward ... mankind begins the devil's "backward" process of self-destruction ... now becoming evident in the lack of natural affection resulting in the destruction of the unborn ... very young ... and elderly ... members of our very own earthly family ... as well as ... what was meant to be ... our "forever Church family."
It's all about "God's Word" ... and "God's Word" ... is all about genuine "Love"
... so David says:

... when worldlings make God's "Commandments" "void" ... disregarding God's established boundaries that maintain life ... then God is compelled to "work" ... compelled to "take action."
For this reason David "Loves" God's "Commandments" ... because they "reveal" what "time" it is
... assuring David that he is about to "see" Almighty God "work."
Therefore the encouragement David is receiving after such a long time of battling his enemies
... becomes more valuable to him ... even:
"above fine gold"

all thy precepts
concerning all things

David "loves" God's "Commandments" ... "above fine gold" because he can "see" their value in maintaining life.
Because God has given David the ability to "see" ... he is able to:

Life is a "journey" that ultimately takes us into eternal life.

The "narrow path" leads to an eternal life of blessing and joy ... in the kingdom of God.
The broad way ... leads to eternal torment in hell ... as a result of eternally self-destructive choices.
