Ps.119..Vav.."Salvation..Secured by a Nail"

~ Sixth Section ~

VAU/Vav
In Hebrew Means:

..."Nail"...
..."Secure"...
..."Connect"...

Introduction:

The Living Word of God, Jesus Christ, is the payment for our sin ... He is the One securing our salvation ... at the cross of suffering ... by means of the nail.

Tetragrammaton:

The "nail" is also found in the tetragrammaton in YHVH... name of God in the Old Testament ... meaning:
..."Behold ...
the hand
... Behold ...
the nail."

* * * * *
The Holy Bible ... Written Word of God ... is the "hand" of God ... the God-breathed ... spiritually "God-scripted" ... document

... through which the nail connects us ... to the  legal payment for our salvation ... by the Blood shed via the nail

... retroactively ... throughout history.

Word of God
. . .Bringing Mercies

v.41
Let thy mercies
come also unto me,
O LORD,
even thy salvation
according to thy word.

"let"
[H1961]
= to happen
= come about
= come to pass
= become .. instituted
= established
= exist .. abide .. remain
= occur .. be done

"mercies"
[H2617]
= goodness .. pity
= lovingkindness

"come"
[H935]
= to go in .. enter
= light upon .. come upon
(inviting Holy Spirit)

"salvation"
[H8668]
= deliver .. help .. rescue
= in need of Saviour
= safety .. victory

[H7768]
= cry for help

"according"
[H1697)]
= in harmony with
= the totality of

"Word"
[H565]
= utterance .. speech
= commandment

[H561]
= promise .. saying

David ... describes how to draw close to God ... by saying that drawing close happens "according to"

... or "through"...  God's Holy Word.

Because of this ... we realize we cannot find salvation "according to God's Word"

... if we have not personally ... diligently studied the specifics of His Word

... which provide the steps we must take to find salvation.

On one hand ... today ... we have the "cultural christian" preachers

... men wearing trendy skinny jeans and comfy plaid sport shirts ... preaching a "no-need-of-repentance"

..."grace-covers-everything"... type of message.

...and on the other hand ... the type of men who have traditional haircuts

... wear nice suits ... but have always preferred to follow the high sounding opinions of other men

... rather than subjecting themselves to the powerful ... Spirit-filled Sword of the Truth of the Word of God.

But God reminds us not to be deceived by lofty and eloquent preaching:

Using himself as an example to follow ... (when it comes to preaching)

... the Apostle Paul ... a very highly educated man himself

... warns the Corinthians ... by exemplifying the type of preaching that can be trusted to fulfill God's will

... reminding them:

And I, brethren,
when I came to you,
came not
with
excellency
of
speech
or of
wisdom
declaring unto you
the testimony
of God.

For I determined
not to know
any thing among you,
save
[except
Jesus Christ,
and
him crucified.

And
I was with you
in weakness
and
in fear
and
in much
trembling.

And
my speech
and
my preaching
was not
with
enticing
words of
man's
wisdom,
but in
demonstration
of
the Spirit
and
of
power:

That your
faith
should not
stand
in the wisdom
["wisdom"]
of men
but in
the power
of God.
1 Cor. 2:1-5

We have to love the Apostle Paul for his weakness ... fear ... and trembling under the power of the Holy Spirit ... (surely not because he is a "spiritual coward")

... as he draws attention to the methods ... eloquent false teachers are using

... men who have wasted no time in infiltrating the work God was doing in Corinth by seducing them with their puffed up way of "preaching."

... These men ... having a lot in common with those of today ... with their emotionally charged ... sometimes tearful platitudes

... or austere descriptions of the Scriptures spoken with ... an often ... unidentifiable ... extremely ..."eloquent accent"... referring to our Father in Heaven as ..."Gawd" Almighty

... guaranteed to impress any pew-warmer with high-sounding vocalizations

... cleverly swapping out the God-breathed doctrine found in the actual pages of the Holy Bible

... with their own coveted "historic doctrines" promoting their own "systems of theology" that we are supposed to believe are true

... simply because of the length of time they have existed

... having been constructed of the culturally acceptable ...
classically dead opinions of men

... wrapped in bits and unrelated fragments of God's Word ... providing only a meager (spiritual) starvation diet ... if at all ... if you will. :-)

Yes ... in deed ... we are compelled to love the Apostle Paul for being God's faithful messenger ... providing us with this firm foundation of the inspired Word ... with which to discern wolves in sheep's clothing. ♡

The stern ... love-less ... very cool atmosphere of some assemblies we see today ... basically use spiritual fear and guilt to keep them faithfully coming through the doors.

It is their overly formal ... cold ... intellectual attitude toward the Scriptures ... and one another ... that exposes them ... in the "warmth" of

... or ... dare we say ... in their case

... in the "hot"... Light of the Scriptures ... that helps us discern the real from the pretenders:

"By this
shall all men
know
that ye are
my disciples,
if
ye have love
one to another."
-John 13:35

"Love"... according to the Scriptures ... first of all speaks of an unselfish desire to tell the Truth ... regardless the consequences.

... then goes on to describe "Love" as a warm ... compassionate ... concern ... for the needs of others (spiritually ... as well as physically)

... especially those of the household of faith.

King David reminds us in verse 41 ... that God will pour out His mercy on those who draw close to Him through His Holy Word

... will provide them with the Way to salvation from their sins

... and pity them because of His goodness and His own lovingkindness.

God is good ... He is Love ... and always gives us everything we need

... when we are willing to listen to what He is saying

... according to His Spirit

... that resides in His Holy Word.

Simplicity of
. . .The Gospel

The Epistle of James ... Chapter 4 ... also parallels ... what King David has written in this 41st verse of Psalm 119

... providing the specific steps required for salvation

... based on the simplicity of the Word of God

... designed by our Creator to reach the heart of even a very humble man who knows nothing of higher education

... even one standing behind a plow ... or in the field ... in the middle of nowhere.

To such a man ... to any one of us ... our Father has written through the pen of James ... as well as King David

... a simple reminder to:

"Draw nigh
to God,
and he will
draw nigh
to you.
Cleanse
your hands,
ye sinners;
and purify
your hearts
ye
double minded.

Be afflicted
and mourn
and weep
let your laughter
be turned to
mourning
and your joy to
heaviness.

Humble
yourselves
in
the sight
of
the Lord,
and
he shall
lift you up.
- James 4:8-10

The Simple
...Yet
    ...Thorough Steps
        ...to Salvation:

. . .From James 4:8-10:

(1)..God's mercy ... pity ... lovingkindness ... help ... rescue from the bondage of sin

... as well as man's eternal salvation

... are all secured by the nail at the cross

... retroactively ... when one reaches a point of repenting

... (feeling deep sadness and regret over sin).

... causing one to turn from sin.

(2)..This repentance takes place in conjunction with

... and submission to

... the Preeminent Authority of the Living Word ... Jesus Christ ... and the Written Word ... the Holy Bible.

When these steps are taken

... God will lift us up

... lift us up emotionally and spiritually

... as well as ...

... lift us up physically at His appearing ... Rapture
(Rev.3:10 .. 2Thess.2 .. Luke 21:36)

... or at the resurrection.

James ... specifies that God's method of securing man's salvation ... is to first address the issue of sin

... describing sin as something from which man must be rescued ... delivered ... saved.

James ... details how salvation from sin occurs.

The sinner must first be cleansed ... and his heart purified through repentance ... by understanding how sin separates him from God and destroys life

... then rejecting his sin ... hating his sin ... turning from sin ... he draws close to God and His Holy Word

... and expressing his deep love for Jesus with all of His heart ... considers the immeasurable value of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ

... becoming eternally grateful for all Christ suffered so we might be forgiven and made worthy to dwell with Him forever.

When this takes place

... then man is ready to be "lifted up"

... in spirit ... by the indwelling Holy Spirit of God ... with a strong joyful heart to live victoriously in Christ

... and "lifted up"

... physically ... when Jesus appears to gather His faithful Bride at the Rapture.

Until man's heart is purified ... he remains unstable ..."double minded"

... without the wisdom and knowledge of God to help him think clearly, act righteously, become the person God created him to be

... or experience the assurance of eternal life with Christ.

A double minded man
is unstable
in all his ways.
- James 1:8

Word of God
... Bringing
     ... Vindication

v.42
So shall I have wherewith
to answer him
that reproacheth me:
for I trust in thy word.

"wherewith"
[H1696]
= speak .. communicate
= subdue .. declare
= destroy
(verbal challenges and attacks in struggle for truth .. vindication)

[H1697]
= have advice
= have counsel needed
= provision
= preparation
= know what to say

"answer"
[H6030]
= respond
= testify as witness
= give account

[H6031]
= to humble .. put down
= chasten
= look down on

"reproach"
[H2778]
= taunt .. defy
= blasphemy .. defame

[H2781]
= scorn .. shame
= rebuke .. disapproval

"trust"
[H982]
= to have confidence

= have hope .. be sure
= careless
(without hesitation)

"according to thy Word"
[H1697]
= in harmony with
= the totality of Word of
   God

God's Word equips ... prepares ... provides us with secure confidence

... to be able to respond to verbal challenges or any other type of attack.

Therefore ... it is wise to listen to what He has to say in His Word.

Study
. . .Study
     . . .Study

"Study
to shew thyself
approved
unto God,
a workman
that needeth not
to be ashamed,
rightly
dividing
the word
of truth."
2 Tim.2:15

"But sanctify
the Lord God
in
your hearts:
and
be ready always
to give
an answer
to
every man
that asketh you
a reason
of the hope
that is in you
with meekness
and
fear:"
-1 Peter 3:15

Time is running out ... one hour a week ... one day a week ... of study in the Word of God is not sufficient to be prepared

... especially in these very deceptive ... End Times.

To spiritually acquire the knowledge and wisdom we need ... we simply must dig deeper into the Word of God.

Our Father has given a secure defense ... providing us with a confident reply ... found in His pure Word ... against any that would try to deceive ... falsely accuse ... or attempt to discredit those who belong to Him.

If we think ... assume ... presume ... we stand ... we should take heed

... lest we fall.

In order to use this spiritual defense He has provided ... we must become thoroughly familiar with it.

Word of God
. . .Bringing Truth

v.43
And take not
the word of truth
utterly out
of my mouth
for I have hoped
in thy judgments.

"take"
[H5337]
= snatch .. steal away
= strip .. torn out

[H5336]
= not "preserved"/"kept"

[H5329]
= not preeminent
= not foremost
= not priority

"word"
[H1697]
= utterance .. sayings
= chronicles
= commandments

"truth"
[H530]
= faithful to Word of God

[H529]
= established
    .. in Word of God

[H539]
= supported .. nourished
(as by parents)
= carried .. standing firm

[H571]
= firmness .. faithfulness
= sureness .. reliability
= stability
= spoken testimony of God
= true doctrine

"utterly"
[H3966]
= exceedingly
= to great degree
= "completely"
(used in some cases)

"out of my mouth"
[H6310]
= not able to speak
= removed from

"hoped"
[H3176]
= patiently
= painfully waited for
= expected .. trusted

"judgments"
[H4941]
= right .. lawful
= in accord with
   .. the Word of God
= order .. approprate

How can the Word of God be removed ... not preserved ... taken utterly out of the mouth?

H5329 ... tells us how the Word is stolen away.

It is taken away ... when it is not "preeminent"

... when it is not stored up and preserved in our heart

... when it is not our foremost priority in life.

This is when we are not able to speak the Word of God.

God will not let His Word be taken out of our mouth ... as long as we are in His Word

... trusting ... patiently waiting ... painfully longing to see and hear His Word

... making His Word our preeminent priority in life.

Verse 43 further specifies His Word as "the Word of truth"

... as opposed to what?

Where do other words come from?

The only other two sources words come from are:

(1)..the opinions of men.

(2)..the deceptive words and lies of the devil.

To discover where our time should be invested

... we need to place the totality of the opinions of men ... in addition to the lies of the devil ... on one side of the scale of life

... and the Holy Bible ... Word of God ... on the other side

... and ask ourselves:

"Which side proves to hold the indisputable weight of Truth ... which possesses the final Word concerning any issue?"

"Sanctify them
through
thy truth
thy word
is truth."
-John 17:17

Law of God
. . .Existing Eternally

v.44
So shall I keep
thy law
continually
for ever
and ever.

"keep"
[H5341]
watch .. preserve
= guard from danger
= keep close .. observe
= subtle watcher

[H8104]
= save
= have charge of
= as watchman
(keeper .. guardian of)

"law"
[H8451]
= direction .. instruction
= prophetic teaching
= interpret Word of God

[H3384]
= like "Water of Word"
= pour .. cast .. throw
= like rain
= teach .. instruct

"continually"
[H8548]
= daily .. perpetually
= constantly engaged in
= stretch .. expand
= make room for
= always growing

"forever"
[H5769]
= from ancient times
= always .. unending
= eternity .. into future

"ever"
[H5703]
= continuing into future

What is the purpose of keeping God's law continually?

That the righteousness
of the law
might be fulfilled
in us,
who walk not
after the flesh
but after
the Spirit.

For they that
are after the flesh
do mind
the things
of the flesh
but they that
are after the Spirit
the things
of the Spirit.

For to be
carnally minded
is death
but to be
spiritually minded
is life
and
peace.
-Rom.8:4-6

For all the law
is fulfilled
in one word
even in this;
Thou shalt LOVE
thy neighbour
as thyself.
-Gal.5:14

By this we know
that we love
the children of God,
when we love God
and
keep his commandments.

For this is
the love of God
that we keep
his commandments:
and
his commandments
are
not grievous.
-1John 5:2-3

Just saying that we know Jesus ... who He is ... or that we believe He is who He says He is ... is not evidence of salvation.

Our life must manifest the evidence of successful resistance to fleshly control

... as well as ...

the preeminent Authority of Jesus Christ and the Word of God over our life

... in and through the power we have available

... via the indwelling Holy Spirit

... providing genuine love for God and others.

When this happens ... God's commandments will not be "grievous" or "burdensome.

... In fact ... doing the will of God will actually
bring great joy.

Law of God
. . .Providing Freedom

v.45
And I will walk
at liberty
for I seek
thy precepts.

"walk"
[H1980]
= go .. come .. move
= die .. live
= manner of life
= travel

"liberty"
[H7342]
= broad .. wide
= roomy (pasture)

[H7337]
= (not confined)
= (free to move)
= grow large
= growth
= enlarge (capacity)
= make room

"seek"
[H1875]
= consult God
= investigate carefully
= study application
= follow .. practice
= search

"precepts"
[H6490]
= totality of Law
Word of God
= statute
= commandments

[H6485]
= judgment
= recorded testimony
= pay attention to .. need

Walking freely ... at liberty ... like everything else in life ... depends on our relationship with God and His Word.

The liberty spoken of here is not referring to physical liberty ... but spiritual freedom ... for throughout history many faithful Christians have not always enjoyed physical freedom ... but have often been imprisoned for their faith in Christ.

However ... regardless our circumstances ... God does provide roomy spiritual pasture in which to graze.

In fact ... as long as we are exploring His precepts ... there are no boundaries ... when it comes to His Word.

... We can go as deep and as far as we desire to go.

He also encourages us to expand our capacity ... so we can grow and mature even more to experience as many blessings and as much joy as possible

... from what He is saying to us through His Word.

Law of God
. . .Boldly Testifying

v.46
I will speak
of thy testimonies
also
before kings
and
will not
be ashamed.

"speak"
[H1696]
= declare .. converse
= command .. promise
= warn threaten
= sing .. talk

"testimonies"
[H5713]
= witness
(always plural)
(ref. divine laws)

[H5715]
= legal witness

[H5707]
= evidence recorded
= Word of God

[H5749]
= repeat .. affirm
= exhort

"kings"
[H4428]
[H4427]
= royalty .. ruler
= (position of authority)

"ashamed"
[H954]
= disappointed in self
= regret .. embarrassed
= humiliated

Knowledge of the Word and law of God also provides freedom ... in the form of boldness ... and power of the Spirit ... when called to testify before "kings"... anyone sitting in a position of authority.

When called to testify to the Truth of the Word of God ... we need not fear embarrassment ... regret ... humiliation ... or being disappointed in ourselves.

The Spirit of the Word of God faithfully speaks through us ... while ministering to us spiritually ... mentally ... physically ... and emotionally.

Law of God
. . .Loving It ♡

v.47
And
I will
delight myself in
thy commandments
which I have loved.

"delight"
[H2654]
= find pleasure
= well pleased

[H8173]
= shout for joy
= joyful emotion

"commandments"
[H4687]
= law .. precept
= ordinances
= judgments .. rules
= code of wisdom
= best course in life
= God's direction and will
= totality of God's Word

[H6680]
= assignment
= specific God-given
    .. appointment

"loved"
[H157]
= (great affection
     .. all types of
     .. relationships):
= God
= Word and Law of God
= one human for another
= family .. spouse
= friends
= (for) righteousness

King David sets a most important example for us.

While everything else in life disappoints us ... the one thing that will never fail to bring joy unspeakable

... and amazing love and gratitude into our heart

... is the gift of the Word and commandments of God

... illuminating the best path we should be taking next

... correcting our course when we fail to see things clearly

... protecting us through discernment

... and giving comfort, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding when we are hurt.

So what is next? . . .

Law of God
. . .Loving It
  . . .Praising It
    . . .Meditating on It

v.48
My hands also
will I lift up
unto thy commandments
which I have loved;
and
I will meditate
in thy statutes.

"lift up"
[H5375]
= physically raise
= exalt

[H5374]
= as a lamp of Jehovah
= shine forth

[H5376]
= carry

"commandments"
[H4687]
= law .. precept
= ordinances
= judgments .. rules
= code of wisdom
= best course in life
= God's direction and will
= totality of God's Word

"loved"
[H157]
= (great affection
     ... all types of
     ... relationships):
= God
= Word and Law of God
= one human for another
= family .. spouse
= friends
= (for) righteousness

"meditate"
[H7878]
= put forth thoughts/muse
= commune (pray)
= speak .. sing
= complain .. ponder

"statutes"
[H2708]
= ordinance

[H2706]
= prescribed boundaries
= limits ..conditions

[H2710]
= according to
    .. God's written Word

Because of King David's great love for God's Holy Word

... he is compelled to physically demonstrate that He is yielded to the Authority of the Word of God

... by raising his arms in praise to His Almighty King

... and committing himself to continually meditating on every precious commandment

"...every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.(Matt.4:4)

What is next? . . .

... thankful enough ...
... for ...
... God's Holy Word ...
... to ...
... seek ...
... listen ...
... meditate ...
... heed ...

. . .and. . .discover prophecy regarding the Rapture

... as it is being revealed ... right now

... from the Word of God and declared from the heavens.
