Ps.119..DALETH.."Life..Breath..Word ..and..The Door"

~The Fourth Section~

Introduction: 

This fourth section of Psalm 119 reveals:

... the dilemma
... the remedy
    ... and ...
... the Way

to eternal life ... in both ... Word and Symbol

... the Word of God describing the desired Remedy/Gift of Eternal Life

... and the Symbol taking preeminence in providing a picture of the means by which the remedy is acquired.

The Symbol above ... is the remedy

... and is presented in this post preeminently ... first ... because it deserves preeminence.

... However ... the Words describing the remedy being sought

... are actually defined first in the Word of God in order to provide chronology to the entire picture this passage presents

... since the passage first describes the dilemma ... then the remedy

... which will become apparent as we recognize the chronological Word-picture King David is also constructing for our consideration.

"My soul

The psalmist, King David, realizes that there is something very wrong with his soul ... his inner self ... his heart ... He feels stuck ... dried up ... dead ... worthless ... unclean.

...Therefore ... he asks God to help him ... to save him.  

He is praying God will help him live ... be sustained and grow as a person ... even considering his eternal life.

So David earnestly calls upon the Lord hoping He will explain everything he needs to know ... from His Word

... and show him how to become the person he was created to be.

King David has recounted ... spelled out ... recalled his path in life and examined his own inclinations and habits

... bringing all of this before God and knows he has been heard.

How does he know God has heard him?

... We are not told ... but we do know that God has His own ways of letting us know that He hears our requests and understands the desires of our heart.

David continues to reveal what a wise and humble king he is ... by next requesting ... that God would instruct him

... diligently teach him ... God's specific rules ... laws ... established boundaries

... and ... provide the wisdom he is specifically going to need from God's Holy Word.

In this heart-felt ... most
transparent request ... King David is revealing his willingness to submit to the Higher Authority of God's instruction

... as well as ... his desire to have a close ... personal ... loving relationship with his Creator.

This is the very reason God calls David:

...."a man after mine own heart."

David's request reveals that he knows the importance of

... the desire to glorify God

... and how that serves as the first step to walking with God

... observing how our Creator can become specifically and intimately involved in one's life

... and then being privileged to testify to the world ... of all of His wondrous works.

At times it can feel like our life is dissolving ... just melting away and there is nothing we can do to preserve it.

When faced with times such as this ... only God can come to our rescue

... and through the power of the Holy Spirit infused in the totality of the Word of God

... successfully restore our strength ... help us endure ... and overcome. 

v.29

Overcoming involves putting an end to sin by praying that God will teach ways to avoid and reject it

... asking Him to take away temptation and wrong desires ... as we willingly ... embrace His Word.

David specifically mentions the habit of lying.

He is praying ... and also ... perhaps repenting ... asking God to help him not to be guilty of deceiving others.

He understands the seriousness of his sin and is already crushed by it

... so begs God to show mercy in His instruction

... as He tenderly corrects with the insight of His powerful Word.

Finding the entrance ... the Door ... to eternal life happens

... when the Way of Truth is chosen

... God's judgments are discovered in His Holy Word

... and our hearts find harmony with everything He has said, therein.

It is the totality of the precious Word of God ... both Old and New Testaments ... that directs our spiritual steps to the Door

... the Door ... marked in red ... the one covered in the precious "Blood of the Lamb." 

Jesus speaking. . .

"I am the door: 

by me
if
any man enter in, 

he shall be saved, 

and
shall go in
and out, 

and
find pasture."

-John 10:9

Here is where we make the eternally heavy choice whether to go through the Door to receive eternal life or not

... to find cleansing from sin by the Blood of Christ

... to find the Way

... and to begin the journey on the narrow road that takes us to the Father's House

... as we continue to be nourished and supported by the powerful ... life sustaining ... Word of God

... and walk forever with our glorious Creator ... who loved us and gave Himself for us.

v.31

"I have stuck unto
thy testimonies: 

O LORD, 

put me not
to shame."

We are only human ... and there are just so many hours in a day

... so it is vital to follow David's example and ask God's help to make His Word and testimonies preeminent in our life.

Then ... like David ... we can remind God that we have made the best possible use of our time in pursuit of His Word and His will

... and have done our best ... with His help ... to walk closely in fellowship with Him.

In this way ... we can have confidence toward Him and assurance

... knowing He will answer our prayer ... help us avoid regrets ... and be kept from  being ashamed at His appearing.

v.32

"I will run the way 

of thy commandments, 

when thou shalt 

enlarge my heart."

King David is in a hurry.

... He realizes that there is an urgent need to get through the Door and begin the journey to fulfill God's specific will for his life

... according to God's plan and His Holy Word.

... There is no time to waste.

Again ... we see what a wise king David is.

... He is fully aware that going through the Door will require more heart than he currently has

... so he prays that the Lord will expand the capacity of his heart

... and make room for more of God's Word.

"Thy word 

have I hid 

in mine heart, 

that I might not sin 
    against thee."    

-Ps.119:11

Life and breath 

... and ... 

going through the Door 

are all a matter 

... of ... 

the heart.
